About Mary

Know Yourself. Trust Yourself. Choose Yourself.

I'm Mary Scott, an Australian Business & Confidence Coach, international speaker, published author, proud Crone and founder of Mary Scott Influence.

I work particularly with women over 50, and there's something I've become increasingly interested in after decades of working with people:

How well do you really know yourself?

Because I see women overriding what they already know all the time.

By the time women reach their 50s and beyond, they've often spent decades building lives, raising families, working, caring for others and being the one everyone could rely on.

Somewhere amongst all of that, it can become surprisingly easy to give more weight to everybody else's needs, expectations and opinions than your own.

My work is about changing that.

I help women know who they are, recognise when they're overriding what they already know, and build the self-trust to make choices that are genuinely theirs in business and in life.

I don't separate the woman from the business.

Women often come to me because something isn't working in their business. It might be marketing, visibility, confidence, direction or simply not knowing what to do next.

But sometimes the surface problem isn't the real problem.

I have a knack for hearing what's underneath what's being said and picking up on something that hasn't quite been spoken.

That's where the conversation can take a very different turn.

I'm not there to hand a woman all the answers. I help her see herself and her situation more clearly, uncover what's really getting in the way and trust more of what she already knows.

This sits at the heart of my Self-Doubt → Self-Trust → Profit Method.

Because another strategy isn't always the answer. Sometimes we need to start with the woman who's trying to implement it.

Confidence isn't where you start.

I don't believe you have to wait until you feel confident before you begin.

Confidence is built through experience.

Every time you make your own decision, back yourself, take the step and discover “I can do this,” you gather evidence of what you're capable of.

Knowing who you are helps you trust your own judgement and make decisions that are right for you.

Confidence grows from there.

A professional life built around people.

I've spent much of my working life listening to and working with people.

I spent approximately 20 years in nursing before training as a psychotherapist in Melbourne in 1990, followed by 16 years in private practice.

Although I no longer practise as a psychotherapist, that training is deeply embedded in how I work. It informs my understanding of people and the human condition, what I notice, the questions I ask, and often my instinct for knowing where we need to go next.

My life and work have taken me in some very different directions over the years, from volunteering in Fiji earlier in my life, to spending three years working with asylum seekers in a refugee detention centre in Nauru, and time working in the mining industry.

For the past 11 years, I've worked as an online coach, and around five years ago I founded Mary Scott Influence.

It hasn't been one neat, predictable path.

And I'm rather glad it hasn't.

All those experiences have given me perspective, curiosity, resilience, and plenty of opportunities to fail forward.

It's one reason I proudly call myself a Crone.

To me, a Crone is the wise woman. Her wisdom hasn't come only from books or qualifications.

She's lived it!

my work today

Today, I coach women online through one-to-one coaching and groups,

as well as workshops, speaking and intimate in-house retreats.

I also host The Richness of Our Lives, my ongoing podcast exploring people's

lives and experiences, where they've been, what they've lived through, what they've learned and what has shaped who they are today.

My work has taken me onto stages in Australia and internationally.

In March 2026, I was a keynote speaker at the Women Leadership – Women Health Conference in Paris, and I've been invited to speak at Generation Women Australia on multiple occasions.

I'm also a published author and have been a quarterly contributor to

Expert Profile Magazine since 2022.
